FIRST AID TRAINING AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
Training of youth in the first aid is a traditional activity for BRCY.
According to the agreement with Ministry of education, the education providing from the BRCY can be done in Bulgarian schools.
One of our main projects in this field is training Bulgarian school children together with the Austrian Red Cross Youth. All the materials (manuals, posters, first aid kits, etc.) are provided by the BRCY. The “Helfi” program for first aid training has been translated and will be a basic tool for working with young bulgarians at school.
Every year Regional Committees of the Red Cross organize a first aid competition at regional level and as a result a National First Aid Competition take place every two years.
Together with Austrian Red Cross we are working on the project about establishment and educating of Youth Rescue Teams. Until the beginning of 2000 year there are 12 established Youth Rescue Teams – Sofia, Plovdiv, Pleven, Blagoevgrad, Varna, Montana, Vidin, V. Tarnovo, Pazardgik, Shumen, Vratsa and Kjustendil.The members of these teams are in first aid, psychological support, orientation, communication, survival in severely extreme conditions, etc. The aims of the project are establishment and maintaining of 28 Youth Rescue Teams, one per each region in the country, to act together with the other services in case of disasters.
BRCY will work together with Disaster preparedness and Relief Department in disaster preparedness and disaster relief programmes.
HEALTH EDUCATION
Young people put the emphasis on the work of AIDS prevention and sexually transmitted diseases. Various activities have been undertaken by them: fund-raising campaigns, discussions, meetings with specialists, participation in a Candle Light Day for paying tribute to the people killed by AIDS and support people infected with HIV.
A video, leaflets, peer education and presentation of a puppet-show were implement in a two-year AIDS-prevention project. BRCY organizes processions relating to DRUG-prevention. The main purpose is to unite thousands of young people rising against DRUGS. The BRCY has a lot of trainers and peer-leaders, trained to train young people in DRUG-prevention, AIDS-prevention, etc.
ECOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES
Some BRCY clubs focus on “be friendly to environment activities”, such as environmental education, ecological actions, voluntary brigades. Joint activities with other similar organizations.
TRAINING
Training of volunteers and staff in according to their interests and level of knowledge is based on an existing system for training adopted by the BYRC Executive Board. The system includes:
Basic training: knowledge about the RC Movement, fields of BRC and BRCY activities;
Special training: training in fields of BRCY activities and training of trainers. |
